Land Preservation
GREEN STREET WILL PRESERVE AGRICULTURAL LAND, VIEWS
Fields border the LaPlatte waterway
Eight acres of the Green Street property are along the LaPlatte River which wends northwest towards Shelburne. Though not much more than a stream, land on both sides of the river is preserved. They may be used for recreation and agriculture. The stream banks have been replanted to keep the water clean and cool for fish and wildlife. The LaPlatte River’s protected zone will keep the views to the west and northwest open. A walking path near the river is planned for Green Street.
Hinesburg is a leader in thoughtful village development and public spaces
Within walking or short driving distance of Green Street are numerous additional walking trails:
- The hill behind Lantman’s supermarket has trails
- Just west of the library is Geprag Park
- A mile south of the village is the new Bissonette Farm town land with a trail system in development.
See the town website (http://www.hinesburg.org/ ) for a complete list and maps.
Plans for the village
The Town Plan calls for dense housing and businesses north of the town center, along Route 116. South of town the land around the LaPlatte River will stay as farmland. The town would like the closed Saputo cheese plant to be turned into a new town center with retail businesses, more open public space for events, and more housing.
